What Are the Issues to Consider When Choosing an Outdoor Cabinet?

July 27, 2020

If the cabinet needs to be installed outdoors, the IP protection level is required to be high, and the cabinet can also be equipped with a canopy. Corrosion resistance and UV protection also need to be considered. This article will share with you the 5 main points that you need to pay attention to when choosing an outdoor cabinet. I hope it can help you.

1. Corrosion resistance: Outdoor cabinets need to be installed outdoors. Compared with indoor cabinets, they are prone to rust and corrosion in a humid environment for a long time. Therefore, the surface treatment of the cabinet is very important. The coating thickness of a normal outdoor cabinet shall not be less than 80um.

2. Heat dissipation: A large number of electrical appliances inside the outdoor cabinet will generate heat during use. Outdoor ultraviolet radiation will also increase the temperature inside the cabinet. When the temperature exceeds a certain level, it will affect the normal operation of the equipment. Therefore, heat dissipation and temperature control are required inside the cabinet. There are two ways of heat dissipation: convection and non-convection. Convection is mainly to deal with the situation that the cabinet temperature is not high or the power supply is insufficient, and the fan is used to take in the air while the fan is exhausted. The air convection within the cabinet has the effect of cooling the cabinet.

3. Rain and dust resistance: The outdoor weather changes in many stages and the geographical location of outdoor cabinets is not the same. In the rainy area in the south, if the outdoor cabinets cannot be rainproof, rainwater enters the cabinets and causes short circuits in the equipment, causing great losses to the equipment. Therefore, outdoor cabinets need to have high rain resistance. In the arid areas of the northwest, there is more sand and dust. Fine dust enters the cabinet and blocks the equipment, which will also affect the normal operation of the equipment.

4. Anti-theft: The electrical equipment inside the outdoor cabinet is expensive, and the outdoor cabinet is mainly placed in the outdoor unguarded area, which requires the outdoor cabinet to have anti-theft requirements.
